Honeywell Vista 20P Control Panel: Does it need a phone line?
Do I Need a Phone Line for the Honeywell Vista 20P Control Panel to Work?
No, connecting a phone line with a security system control panel is an obsolete method. Honeywell Vista 20P is compatible with internet communicator as well as GSM cellular communicators. Both of these are more secure and advanced than a phone line communication.
Communicators Compatible with Vista 20P
Vista 20P is compatible with two GSM communicators i.e. GSMX4G and GSMV4G. The internet communicator compatible with 20P is the Honeywell 7847i. Dual communicator iGSMV4G is also compatible with Vista 20P control panel. The details of these communicators are given below.
- 1.Honeywell GSMX4G
GSMX4G is similar to the original Honeywell GSMX communicator with one important upgrade; it is capable of 4G cellular alarm communications. There was another communicator from Honeywell that was capable of 4G cellular alarm communications. It was the Honeywell GSMVLP5-4G. The main drawback of that communicator was that it was only compatible with L5100 LYNX alarm control panel. GSMX4G on the other is fully compatible with all Vista Series control panels, including the 20P.
- 2.Honeywell GSMV4G
Just like GSMX4G, Honeywell GSMV4G is compatible will all Vista Series control panels. You can use this communicator with your Vista 20P control panel and enjoy the 4G capable communication. There’s not much difference between the GSMX4G and GSMV4G. Both are capable of 4G cellular alarm communications and both are similar to the original GSMV communicator from Honeywell which worked on the older 2G cellular network.
- 3.Honeywell 7847i
Honeywell 7847i is an internet communicator which is fully compatible with Honeywell Vista 20P control panel. This communicator is backed by the AlarmNet division of Honeywell. AlarmNet provides state-of-the-art alternative alarm communication paths. In fact, it is the most dependable and advanced alarm communication provider in the industry. All communicators of AlarmNet are supervised by the Network Control Center of AlarmNet. It is a set of servers that check connectivity to all the AlarmNet alarm communicators on regular basis. The servers also forward the alarm signals to the central station of Alarm Grid for monitoring.
- 4.Honeywell iGSMV4G
If you are looking for the most secure path of communication for your Vista 20P control panel, then dual communication is the ideal choice. The iGSMV4G is the communicator which supports dual communication. It is compatible with 20P. The primary path of communication of iGSMV4G is IP. In case the IP connection is lost, the communicator will switch to GSM communication to ensure that the connectivity with the alarm system is maintained. You have an option to activate only the GSM path or the IP path depending on your preferences, but one thing is for sure; dual is the most secure path.
Do These Commutators Work with Total Connect 2.0?
Yes, when you pair your Vista 20P control panel with any of the above mentioned communicators, you will be able to connect to Total Connect 2.0. You will then be able to use your Total Connect 2.0 account to control your alarm system remotely from any smartphone or computer.
