Why use fiber optic cable rather than Category 6, 7, or 8?
Why use fiber optic cable rather than Category 6, 7, or 8?
- Fiber bandwidth is over 1000X that of any Category Cable. A fiber link is 60TB + vs Category cable at 10G.
- Fiber can transmit at distances up to 12 miles without a repeater, while copper is still limited to 328 feet.
- Fiber is immune to electrical noise, while copper is subject to EMI/RFI signals, crosstalk and voltage surges.
- Fiber is nearly impossible to tap into while copper is vulnerable to tapping and data theft.
- Fiber handling is much better than copper because of it's lighter weight, thinner diameter and strong pulling strength.
Fiber also has a much longer life cycle than it's copper equivalents.
